The Digger:

My personal race car is an original 1969 front engine dragster, also called a slingshot or digger. This one has a 178-inch wheelbase, is powered by a blown methanol 1956 Chrysler 354 Hemi, and, other than updated roll bars, is the same car that stormed drag strips in the late '60s and early '70s.

I can’t tell you how fast this car is yet, because I’m still building it, but with 1200+ horsepower and only weighing 1,600 pounds, it should theoretically run low 7s at 180+ MPH. If all things go well, I should be able to run it for the first time this summer. So keep watching to see how I do.

I will be racing at tracks in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana with a group of guys from the Chicago area who all have similar cars as mine. Similar, but one key difference is they run injected Nitro Methane in their cars, while I run a supercharger on methanol. This should be interesting. They are a great bunch of laid-back guys with a wealth of knowledge on what it takes to run one of these monsters. If you like the old-style dragsters and the smell of Nitro, look for news of when and where we race here on this page. I’ll keep you posted. Below are pictures of my car and a few snapshots of my competitors.
